The Stitch Project

MedShare is partnering with the Faiths Act to mobilize multi-faith communities to advance the UN Millenium Development Goals and combat malaria. The entire 5.6 million population of Sierra Leone is currently at high risk for malaria. There are only 102 doctors in the entire country- that’s one doctor for every 56,000 people.

MedShare, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization, bridges the gap between surplus and need to improve healthcare and the environment through the recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment.  The mission is two-fold: make medical products available to needy healthcare facilities in economically developing countries, and reduce the amount of waste in the form of usable medical supplies going to landfills.

This year, Faiths Act Fellows
Sana Rahim and Clint Fluker are raising funds for 2 medical supply containers to go to Sierra Leone. The containers will include critical medical supplies and insecticide treated bed nets, which will help address the pressing challenges of malaria. The first of these containers will go to Moyamba Hospital, a very deserving hospital in Southeast Sierra Leone. We hope that you will join this movement as a volunteer, donor, or active supporter.
